Internet singing sensation Meiko is on island to play two concerts beginning tonight with a show at Cafe Havana in the Hyatt Regency Guam.
A native of Georgia, Meiko has a self-released, self-titled debut album that climbed the charts rapidly on iTunes and Billboard, and her single, "Boys With Girlfriends" reached No. 1 on iTunes' singer-songwriter album chart. On Nov. 21, 2008, the Meiko LP became the No. 1 best-selling album on Amazon.com, and her songs were subsequently on such hit TV shows as "Grey's Anatomy," "One Tree Hill" and "90210," says Ana Marie Ramos of Los Angeles-based Leaudouce Live Music and Concert Promotions.
Meiko, whose full name is Meiko Sheppard, has performed live on variety TV shows including "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," where she was featured last year, and in L.A.'s famous Viper Room. Leaudouce, along with Quasicool, Bud Light and The CW4, has brought Meiko to Guam.
The 27-year-old, who last week finished her first tour of the United Kingdom, says she's excited to be here and looks forward to some sunshine and time on the beach -- having heard much about the island from Guam fans.
"Believe it or not, I get lots of e-mails and MySpace messages from fans in Guam asking for me to come to perform -- so I'm really excited to finally have an opportunity," says Meiko.
In her music -- which can be described as a mix of pop and adult contemporary -- Meiko says she always tries to tell a story.
"It's always more fun to see how people relate to my lyrics -- maybe they've shared similar life experiences," she says.
"Since I'm playing a long set (tonight and Saturday), you can expect to hear lots of songs from my current album, and some new ones I've recently written, too. I might even throw a couple of special remakes in there as well -- we'll see."
